It can be a great money-maker, but it most likely won’t be an overnight success for you. That’s okay, as long as you stay consistent with it, the results will come!

I know what you’re thinking, I can make money selling things online, and that is true! You absolutely can make money selling digital products online. There is one thing you need to keep in mind: you are selling a solution to your customer’s problem, not just a product. So, how can you do that?

First, you have to find your audience and the problem

If you’re new to the online selling/blogging world, you need to find your audience. You can’t know what problem to solve, and how to sell that solution, if you don’t know whos problems you’re trying to solve. But, you also have to look at your skill set, what you have to offer and see who that can help. You almost have to do both of these things at the same time, find your audience and your problem, because they go hand in hand with each other. Once you figure out your audience, you have to go where they hang out; whether that’s social media, LinkedIn, or wherever. You have to meet them where they are and show them what solution you can provide them.

Then, you have to gain your audience’s trust

Before you can start selling digital products to your audience, you have to gain their trust. Yes, it’s possible to cold-sell to your audience, but it’ll be harder to find success that way. Now, there are many ways you can gain your audience’s trust but the best way to do that is by showing the value you can provide your audience, warm them up. Here are a few ways you can do that:

  • Provide small, but valuable, bits of information to solve smaller problems for free to get them to see your methods
  • Provide betas in exchange for feedback and testimonials to show that your methods work
  • Provide analytical results by using yourself as a test case and show what you can provide

These are some of the most common ways to gain trust and usually, you see this on social media and through blogs. The top two are the ones you really see floating around. My resource library? My way of trying to gain your trust. This is the main way that bloggers gain their audience’s trust. Even if you look past the email list, sharing blog posts with advice, this post itself, is free and valuable to the reader.

Next, you come up with your solution and how to present it

In gaining your audience’s trust, you are giving them information, but you should also be studying them and figuring out the main problem. Through courting your audience, you are also learning their pain points and what problems they need to be solved. This is where you can come up with solutions. This is where your skillset and background come into play. What can you bring to the table that they haven’t tried? How do they want that information delivered? An ebook? A course? A membership? It really depends on the best way that your audience learns or wants the information, and what is the best way to present the information. Now you have to figure out what to price it

This is something that many people struggle with. You need to make sure your price reflects the value you’re giving your audience, but you also have to make sure you’re pricing a fair price. Here are some things to consider about pricing:

  1. What format are you delivering your product? An ebook is priced considerably less than a course because of the format. It’s just text and it’s quicker to digest than a full-blown course.
  2. How much do similar products go for in your niche? Do some research. See if there are similar products out there and what the pricing vs. offerings are.
  3. How much experience do you have? If your product is less comprehensive than others on the market, then your price should reflect that.
  4. Don’t sell yourself short. Taking the first three into consideration, you still want to make sure you’re paying yourself fairly for the work that you’ve put into your product.

Remember, the perception of your price is also important. Say your product value would have it priced around $99 for a course, but you price it at $29 hoping to attract more buyers because it’s “cheap”, then you’re more likely to repel those buyers away because they assume it’s “crappy” and not worth it.

Then, set up a sales page and get going!

A sales page is where you gush about all the awesome that is in your product and why people need it. In this, you’re talking directly to the people who you’re trying to help. You talk about the problem, the solution you’re offering, what’s inside the product, any testimonials/reviews, and the price. This is where you really drive it home about what this product can do for people. There are many ways to set up a sales page. One of the best ways is to have it directly on your blog, that way it has your URL and everything. If you use WordPress, you can use Elementor and create it yourself, or use a template. Lastly, get the word out and market yourself!

It’s time to set your product free! Shout it from the rooftops! Let everyone know that you have something incredible to share. Send an email out to your list, put it on all of your socials. After you start getting sales, ask for testimonials and feedback and share those. You want to market your product so that more will see the value and want what you have to offer. Don’t be discouraged if things don’t take off, just keep at it. People want what you have to offer, you just have to find those people and market yourself!
