I know this post is coming a little late this afternoon, however, I’ve been spending time with Matt before he has to leave for his overnight shift {yes overnight shift}. Tomorrow American Airlines and US Airways {finally} become on airline and tonight he has to stay overnight with others and make sure things will go smoothly okay tomorrow.

On February 14, 2013, American Airlines and US Airways announced their merger and have since jumped through hoops and lawsuits to get to this point. The past few months have been hectic and there were many times where plans changed and things were said however I’m proud that we are here. I went to American training the week after my on the job training, at the end of July. So within seven weeks I had learned two different computer systems, and since that point, all of our employees have learned that same system.

From learning a brand new system to being one of the only few night shift people to know how to work these flights well and be comfortable with them, to having to be logged into two systems to work one flight, I really am counting down the hours and minutes until Integration Day {midnight}. Like I said, these past few months have been ROUGH.  I understand it’s been rough for passengers, no doubt I am aware, but it’s also been rough beyond what passengers even know about this merger. It really isn’t as simple as many people seem to think it is.

So I’m sitting here writing this being all nostalgic and sappy because it’s a weird feeling knowing tomorrow there is one less airline, that one has sunset and will no longer be here {and it’s the one I worked for!}. I know it’s not surprising, I came into this job knowing soon it would no longer be the same but still. {Fun fact: US Airways is the final “Airways” airline, after tomorrow every airline will be “_____ Airlines”} I’m just excited to be a part of this, after this weekend. I’m ready to get over the hump of Integration Day.

So I leave you with this, some tips if you’re traveling American this weekend {Don’t} Pack your patience, check in early {like right at 24 hours, and bring your reservation as well}. get to the airport early, and have fun! If you want to track your check in bags, you can do so here: bit.ly/BagsAA. This weekend could get rough, so be ready.

And so, because I will be working through integration weekend like a dog, there will be no new post on The Arizona Prepster. I have two midterm papers and a midterm exam next week and I cannot come up with quality content for you guys by Monday. Thank you for understanding and I hope to see you on an American Airlines, well American Eagle {regional} flight through Phoenix!
